Hey guys.
This is an iOS app, but I put it in Geeks R Us because it affects any of these new wireless multifunction printer / scanner combos.
I got my wife one of these for Her mac recently, and also redid our setup to use an Airport Extreme Base Station router since my old NetGear didn't reliably find these other devices.
Anyway with VueScan you can scan using a flatbed scanner and then open it in a number of apps on your phone, presumably all your OCR apps. I think this is great, because you can avail yourself of the OCR apps which are relatively cheap, and use a flatbed scanner which gives you a better image.
If there are wireless scanners they would work too, but most I have seen are multifunction devices - printer / scanner combinations. Unfortubnately you need sighted help to set them up on your wireless network but after that you're good so long as your iOS device can see them and use AirPrint.
Apparently you can scan from your camera also and send it right to your printer.
Leo, this sounds great. So my question would ultimately be which
scanner/printer would go well with any AOS device? I tried scanning with the
camera with this thing I can't remember what it's called, the box. It's ok, but I'd
like to fully understand how these apps work. Also I heard there is a way to take
a picture of what's on the screen of your phone but I don't know if we'd be able
to read it or how.
A whole load of them, when you buy one make sure it is airPrint compatible. I think we spent a hundred bucks or so on the HP Multi 8520 I think it is. 8520 is in the name.
Ink jet printer, touch display, and scanner.
It has to be wireless capable and your router has to do Airprint / Airdrop devices.
Much as it pains me to say this, NetGear does not. I love NetGear in so many other ways, great professional routers.
But that is why I bought the Airport Extreme Base Station. A chunk of money to put out there but there may be some less expensive options.
Airprint / Airplay capable for the printer, and the wireless router in question.
I think it sounds great. I'll check it out Leo because I think it would be useful for
transcribing and such. Now I'm wondering if the touch display is accessible, or
you get visual assistance ?
Depends on the printer I'm sure. But the HP you have to set up the touch display with sighted help. It's a pretty straightforward display menu thing, and you only do it once or whenever you have a new router.
Is it true that they make portable printers for the IPhone? I was in an Apple store and there was one.
if you have the IPhone5S prismo does a very good job at scanning documents and OCRing them. I got so so results with the IPhone5 when I had it.
Do they make such things for Windows, and if so, do they come with normal buttons? I am really looking for a scanner, not a printer.
